Infradian Rhythms

As women we can’t always bring our ‘A’ game, and you need to know that, that is OK!

In fact, lose that guilt because it is not only OK it is NORMAL and it has something to do with a cycle that occurs in your body called Infradian Rhythm.

You may have heard of Circadian Rhythm which is a daily cycle your body goes through, however, have you heard of the Infradian Rhythm which is based on a 28 day cycle?

This cycle impacts your brain, metabolism, microbiome and immune systems. It can allow you to feel stressed, overweight and unmotivated if you are not tapped into it!

In each phase of this cycle our body releases different hormones. This means we need to exercise and eat differently based on what is happening in each cycle.

You don’t need to go flogging yourself at the gym every single day, pushing beyond what your body actually wants you to do. Or jogging/walking that extra kilometre because you feel you should be! It can actually prove to be counter productive - hence why, some women who workout everyday never lose weight!

The best way to optimise your Infradian Rhythm is to understand each phase, listen to your body. Feed it more when it needs more, exercise and rest when it tells you to. You do not need to be a machine ALL of the time!

Men’s rhythms are actually the same each day, which is why they can run on repeat day after day. That’s a whole other newsletter!! Basically, do not compare yourself to them and do not feel pressure from them to perform the way they do!
