Making DISCOMFORT comfortable.
We live in a world full of creature comforts.
We want to be entertained - we have 1000s of shows we can watch on multiple streaming services. We want to buy something - we get it online and have it delivered to our door. Oh you need it straight away?? Uber Eats or Door Dash can bring it and of course Amazon can guarantee next day delivery!
Life has never been so easy… and yet, something feels off.
With everything at our fingertips, we’ve lost our tolerance for discomfort. We see it in the little moments—impatience in the Supermarket line, frustration in traffic, or that restless feeling when we’re waiting for food at a restaurant. We want things fast, because waiting feels uncomfortable.
But here’s the thing—discomfort isn’t the enemy.
Here is what I know… I know what discomfort feels like. If you’ve ever fasted, you probably do too. But something powerful happens when you lean into it.
The other day, after an intense gym session, I was starving—so hungry I felt like I could eat my own arm. The thought of going home and preparing a balanced meal seemed impossible. I wanted something quick, anything to stop that gnawing hunger. The easiest option? Grabbing something fast (and probably not great for me).
But then I paused.
I reminded myself: If I can go without food for 72 hours, surely I can wait a little longer. That simple shift in perspective got me through the moment, and before I knew it, I was home, cooking the meal my body actually needed.
So I ask you—why are we so afraid of discomfort? If we’re not in danger, what’s the worst that can happen?
Discomfort teaches us. It builds patience, perseverance, resilience, commitment, and determination—qualities we admire in others. But what if we started cultivating them within ourselves?
Next time you feel that discomfort creeping in, sit with it. Breathe through it. Listen to what it has to teach you. Because on the other side of discomfort? That’s where real growth happens.
You've got this. 💛
